EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)

November 2002 - present

In 2002 I returned to the university as a Digital Visual Artist in a new group called Digital Media Services – a department of my former organization, University Information Technology Services.  With DMS, I serve the university as an expert artist and media technician.  My services include the design and implementation of interactive CD-ROMs, Web page design, print media, CD and DVD packaging design and duplication, illustration, photography, videography, and 3D modeling/animation.  Working with experts in a variety of disciplines, I provide faculty expert service and consultation in the development of instructional techniques and methods through various digital media interactivity alternatives.  In addition, I consult with faculty and staff on issues related to production of projects requiring critical aesthetic judgment.

American Trans Air

August 2000 – October 2002

As my career goals moved me toward more complex technical proficiencies in interactive CD development and instructional design, I accepted a new position with American Trans Air as a Courseware Developer.  There I merged my aesthetic expertise with the challenges of interactive programming.  At ATA, I designed and programmed computer-based training (CBT) of material such as aircraft general familiarizations and maintenance procedures with the customer being ATA maintenance crews.  My CBTs contributed to the training mission of the Maintenance Training Department and replaced or greatly supplemented much of the more costly traditional classroom methodology of teaching and learning.  At ATA, I acquired a rich skill set in instructional design method through the development of my courseware products.

Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)

November 1989 - August 2000

In 1989 I joined a new media team, Learning Technologies, which served the IUPUI campus in a variety of media projects.  Through the years several reorganizations occurred and through each stage of organizational growth I continued to be the premier graphic specialist in each iteration of organizational change.  I designed and managed projects for print, video, presentation, and Web applications.  My work for the University involved the facilitation of a number of concurrent projects at a single time and project deadlines were of a critical nature on a consistent basis.

Complementing my visual communications for IUPUI was also my service of design consultation.  Many faculty and staff sought my expert advice on composition and also technical information regarding computer graphics on both the PC and Macintosh platforms.

IUPUI provided the opportunity for me to become an associate faculty member for the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Informatics, New Media Program.  From 1990 through 1999, I instructed classes in advanced graphic principles ranging from the concepts of composition theory to advanced new media applications.  While my students were not always design majors, they still overwhelmingly concurred that my courses benefited them in their understanding of how visual communication applied to their disciplines.

The classes I taught were:

Outside the University, I engaged (and continue to do so) in a variety of freelance endeavors.  Among them are business graphics, consulting, desktop publishing, illustration, photography, videography, presentation design, Web graphics, multimedia authoring, 2Danimation, 3D modeling and animation, and corporate writing.

The Saturday Evening Post

March 1989 - November 1989

As Assistant Art Director for the magazine I carried layouts from sketches to print in a very fast-paced design environment.  I also managed the activities of pre-press preparation with service bureaus such as color separators and printers.

With the Post, I assisted in the early transition from traditional typesetters and paste-up to desktop publishing with early Macintosh technologies.

Cassell Productions, Inc.

June 1988 - March 1989

In my first professional design position, I entered the multimedia industry through development of expertise in graphic preparation for corporate multi-tower slide shows.  There I serviced clients such as Kimball, Boehringer Mannheim, Dow, Mayflower, RCI, Indiana State Police, Hanson & Horn, and many others.  I completed my BFA while working full-time at Cassell.

Camera Hut

December 1986 - June 1988

At Camera Hut I received hands-on training with a comprehensive array of photographic equipment and peripherals while at the same time accumulating many technical skills.  As an expert salesman of equipment and services, I also managed the video transfer department, where I acquired familiarity with video and film formats and skills in editing videotape.  While at Camera Hut as a part-time employee, I attended Herron School of Art as a full-time student.

Haag/Peoples Drug Store

August 1982 - December 1986

At the age of sixteen I began working at the drugstore as a stockman/clerk.
